Think of what a tank normally looks like; now imagine that same tank with a giant corkscrew underneath. That’s the gist of the corkscrew tank. Classified as a screw-propelled vehicle, the corkscrew tank functioned exactly like a normal tank, but was able to move more easily through snow and mud. While the technology was present as early as the mid-1800s, it wasn’t applied to warfare until World War II, when the M29 Weasel was introduced.
