The World's Largest Hand
Afflicted with macrodactyly, a localized form of gigantism, Liu Hua, from Jiangsu, China, has, or rather had, one of the world’s largest hands. His left thumb measured 26 cm (10.5”) long, his index finger was 30 cm (12”) long and his middle one 15 cm (6”) long. The overall weight of his left arm was 10 kg (22 pounds). Liu underwent surgery to correct his oversized hand in 2007 removing 13 pounds of flesh and bone in a seven-hour procedure. Unfortunately, even before the operation, Liu could not have aspired to the Guinness Record for the largest hand. That honor went to Robert Wadlow, whose hands measured 32.3 cm (12.75 in) from the wrist to the tip of his middle finger.
